Trust and compliance

SMS compliance, in plain English

What matters when you text people who just called you, and what TextBack does to help.

A reply to a call is different from a marketing blast

A customer who phones your business has started a conversation. A short text that responds to that call is generally treated differently from promotional messaging. Keep every automated message focused on the call: who you are, that you missed them, and how you can help.

What TextBack handles

  • Opt-outs. Replying STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT marks a contact as opted out. Replying START restores messaging.
  • Your hours. Business-hours controls let you decide when automatic texts go out.
  • Your volume. A monthly SMS allowance per plan keeps sending predictable.
  • Records. Calls, texts, and replies are kept in your call history and inbox.

What you should do

  • Identify your business in the first message.
  • Keep messages relevant to the call and free of sensitive details.
  • Respect opt-outs and never message someone who has asked to stop.
  • Review the carrier registration requirements that apply to your number type and use case.

Carrier registration and setup time

US carriers require businesses that send texts from standard phone numbers to register (commonly called A2P 10DLC). Requirements and timing depend on the type of number and how you use it, and can affect when messages are delivered. That is why we describe setup honestly: account creation, connecting your number, forwarding calls, and writing your message take about 10 minutes, while registration steps, where required, can take longer. See the setup checklist.

Healthcare, legal, and other regulated fields

Dental practices, clinics, and law firms should keep automated texts generic and avoid protected or confidential information. TextBack does not make compliance claims on your behalf, so confirm your obligations with your advisor. See our pages for dentists and law firms.
