The flow
Six steps, mostly automatic
- 1
A customer calls
They call the business number they already know.
- 2
Nobody answers
The call goes unanswered and is forwarded to your TextBack number.
- 3
TextBack detects the missed call
It records the call and checks your automation, business hours, and plan usage.
- 4
The text goes out
After the delay you set (15 seconds by default), the caller receives your message.
- 5
The customer replies
Their reply lands in your TextBack inbox alongside the call history.
- 6
You book the job
Reply by text when you are free and turn the missed call into a conversation.
Control
You decide how it behaves
You control the delay
Choose how long TextBack waits before sending the text.
You control the hours
Business-hours controls decide when automatic texts go out.
You control the volume
Each plan includes a monthly SMS allowance. When it is used up, automatic texts pause until the next billing period or you upgrade.
Opt-outs are respected
If a contact replies STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT, they are marked opted out.
FAQ
How it works: questions
How does TextBack work?
You connect a TextBack number, forward your unanswered calls to it, and write the message you want callers to receive. When a call goes unanswered, TextBack waits the delay you choose (15 seconds by default) and texts the caller. Their reply lands in your TextBack inbox.
Can customers reply to the text?
Yes. Replies arrive in your TextBack inbox so you can continue the conversation by text. Growth and Pro include the full two-way SMS inbox; Starter includes a basic inbox and call history.
Can I control when texts are sent?
Yes. Business-hours controls let you decide when automatic texts go out, and you can change the delay between the missed call and the text.
What if someone does not want texts?
If a contact replies STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT, TextBack marks them as opted out. Replying START restores messaging.
